BIRMINGHAM

Another quiet week in the Magic City.  However, now that it’s April, we can officially say that the Hammers play next month. T-minus 41 days until we are back at it.

DOMESTIC

Zlatan happened, in case you haven’t heard. Best MLS debut ever? You’ll be hard pressed to find one better.

All in all, the first matchup between LAFC and LA Galaxy was everything we could have hoped. A thrilling comeback that brought the world’s eyes to American soccer surely made some MLS executives quite happy.

Believe it or not though, other MLS and USL teams did play this past weekend. Check out the updated MLS power rankings here, and the USL power rankings here.

The CONCACAF Champions League semi-finals kicked off, with Toronto FC putting up a 3-1 win on Club América at home. This came after Club América’s coach had some choice words about the quality of MLS play. In typical CONCACAF fashion, the drama didn’t stop there, as allegations about brawls in the tunnel came out after the game.

In the other semi-final matchup, Tyler Adams finally showed his youth, as a costly mistake led to a 1-0 loss against Chivas. Overall though, a great learning experience for the youngster who looks to be a key piece for the future of the USMNT.

The second legs of both these matchups will be played next Tuesday night. Expectations are high for Toronto, who on paper have one of the best teams MLS has ever sent to the Champions League. Playing at altitude in Mexico City will be no easy task, but their showing in the first leg was a great start.

INTERNATIONAL

Ronaldo put a beautiful bicycle kick in the back of the net. This man is a legend. What more needs to be said?

WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEKEND

Take your pick between LAFC v. Atlanta United or LA Galaxy v. Sporting KC. One will feature two exciting, fast paced, attacking teams squaring off for the first time on a national broadcast on ESPN. The other will feature Zlatan. You can’t go wrong either way.

THAT’S A WRAP
