So you think you have what it takes to compete for a spot on the Birmingham Hammers. Time to prove it. The club is holding their annual open tryouts on Saturday, January 14th (9 AM – 1 PM) at the Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex in Vestavia and on Sunday, January 15th at Auburn University-Montgomery (AUM) (time TBD).

Cost will be $35 if you sign up in advance online or $40 on the day of the tryouts. All instructions for registering can be found at the Birmingham Hammers website. Click this link for additional information.

The addition of Coach Wulf Koch appears to be opening up the talent pool for the Hammers with the tryout in Montgomery. Coach Koch has been the face of the AUM soccer program since 2007 and has great connections in that part of the state.

When asked about heading south on I-65 for tryouts, Hammers Vice-President and co-founder John Killian said that they were “excited to open up the potential player pool to players from all over the state.” He went on to say that the Hammers “play in a tough league against some great clubs so we’re looking high and low for the best players this state has to offer.”

For now, these two tryout dates are the only ones that have been confirmed by the club. Is it possible that the Hammers will decide to host tryouts in other cities around Central Alabama on additional dates? Anything is possible. But for now, those of you around Birmingham and Montgomery that are willing to commit to playing for a NPSL championship this season, now is the time to make sure you have your boots laced up. The journey starts in a couple of weeks.
